If you’re starting out in podcasting, you may be wondering how to get your show into iTunes, and all the other directories for that matter, such as Spotify, Stitcher and Google Play.

Firstly you have to create an account with a podcast hosting platform such as Anchor, Libsyn or Omnystudio. My personal preference is Libsyn as they are the industry leader and most established company. Plus, since it is a paid platform and not a free service, you can retain control over any adverts placed on your episodes.

Once you have created your account with a host, you need to upload a finished episode so that the RSS feed is populated (RSS is the way in which your podcast content is ‘read’ by podcast directories. It’s pretty technical, and you don’t need to know much more than that!). Once you’ve filled in all of the criteria and basic information on your show, you’ll be given a specific RSS url.

Now you have the url, you are ready to head over to Apple Podcast Connect. Using your iTunes account, you can log in and upload the RSS url together with suitable Podcast Artwork that meets all of the guidelines set by Apple.

Submit your show for approval and wait to hear when your show goes live. This can take anything from a few hours to a week.

If you’d like more information on getting your show up and running, you can find out much more inside The Podcast Membership.

In the meantime, sign up for our Launch Your Podcast Checklist to teach you everything you need to know to get your podcast out into the world.
